Kevin Keegan must have breathed a sigh of relief when it was revealed that one of his star players, Obafemi Martins, had decided to stay at his Tyneside team. The Nigerian international striker is thought to have rejected a huge £15 million offer from Arsenal, which must have had come as a surprise to Gunners manager, Arsene Wenger.There were a number of other teams such as Manchester United and AC Milan who were also thought to have expressed an interest in buying the 23-year-old striker, but Martins declined their offers and pledged his allegiance to Newcastle United.Martins advisor Chris Nathaniel confirmed that a number of major teams had expressed an interest in his client, but he was just as keen to tell reporters that Martins had told him that he had no plans to leave the Toon Army in the near future. Mr Nathaniel said: Several top clubs have made contact, but Obafemi hasnt indicated an interest in any of them and he has no intention of quitting the club.Read more about NUFC.Although Martins was rumoured to be close to quitting Newcastle United under the leadership of Sam Allardyce, who failed to give the striker a regular starting place in the first team, he is now thought to want to stay at the North East club in order to help them win a much sought-after place in Europe. Since Kevin Keegan has been at the helm, Martins has been playing for Newcastle Uniteds first team much more regularly and he is thought to be eager to help his new boss to build a strong and successful squad. Martins was bought from Inter Milan for £10 million and arrived at Newcastle United in 2006. He has more than two years left on his contract with Newcastle United, which is thought to be worth around £60,000 per week.Martins decision to stay at the club will make Keegan very happy indeed.
